What happened in Intermediate section:
Initial planned centralizer program of using 1 centralizer every other joint above shoetrack to top of cmt interval (300 m) was changed. Changed to 1 centralizer per joint for all joints between shoe track and top of cmt interval (300 m).
9 5/8″ casing got stuck. Had 40 MT drag in OH (195 MT up, 155 MT down). This is a lot in a short section with only 25-30 deg inc.

What Was Planned

Cement 9 5/8″ casing with centralizers to facilitate good bond and zone izolation

What Was Learned

We were using “twice as many” centralizers on a 9 5/8″ casing job as “other” operators use. They usually dont follow the recommendation from cmt company, as they only see a small part of the risk picture, namely their own cmt operations. Friction in OH, chance of getting junk in hole, etc. must also be considered.

What Actions Are Required

Be more critical and reduce number of centralizers on future wells.

Comments

The stuck casing mechanism cant be 100% determined, but extra friction from unnecessary many centralizers dont help in tight hole with sticky clay. It will help to prevent differential sticking, but we did not have that issue in this well. There were no permeable zones in the OH.
